The other day I and my wife watched the first two movies of LOTR again. Today, I came across a post, leading me to try if the route from The Shire to Mordor actually exists. Well, below is the result:

I’ve been building websites with the popular CMS drupal. Since I migrated to Drupal 7 on localhost, I’d been getting the error “PHP Fatal error: Interface ‘Iterator’ not found”. Naturally, the first thing I did was ask in #drupal on Freenode. No usable response. I filed a bug in Drupal’s database system because the error was coming from database.inc (the issue is at http://drupal.org/node/1016882). Then I migrated some of my websites to Drupal 7 and started getting this error once again. I asked in ##php as well. I asked in #centos because I was using CentOS at the time. I was told to install php-phpunit-File-Iterator, and the issue was fixed, until I restarted the webserver and got the error again. In the meantime, comments have been made on my issue on drupal.org, but I had failed to read them properly. All I had to do was put the line

export LOCALE=C

in /etc/sysconfig/httpd and restart the webserver. Damn!

Crashed Mac

I’ve been using Linux as an host operating system, and Mac and Windows as guest operating systems on Virtualbox for a while now. Recently, I couldn’t boot Mac because my computer has been replaced hence the hardware change. I asked around what to do and here’s what I did. I checked what caused Mac to crash and it was com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I installed a wonderful tool called MacDrive. This tool allows you to use a Mac drive in Windows Explorer, and perform any operation on it. In the Virtualbox configuration for Windows 7 virtual machine, I attached the Mac drive as a secondary hard disk, as seen below:

Then I started up Windows, started Windows Explorer and the virtual hard disk with Mac on it was there. I fired MacDrive, pointed to the Mac drive, and deleted /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. And voila, my Mac was bootable again! Now I’ll be able to use synchronize my iTunes again. You might ask “why did you go through all this trouble and not just re-install Mac?”. Well, I chose not to…

Republic Day

Today is a big day for the Turkish Republic. It’s the 88th birthday of our Republic. This year’s celebrations were canceled because of the horrible, horrible earthquake in Van. Our hearts are with them and always with our Republic and Atatürk.

Earthquake

Yesterday, there was a big earthquake in Van in Turkey. It was and still is pretty sad. So far, 139 people died. I extend my condolences to all the people out there.
